And while we have been painting nonstop, the laundry has piled up, the toys have taken over and the kitchen looks like it has been ransacked by wild animals. In other words, mama is one big stress ball! I don't handle messes very well and this huge mess has me freaking out. Plus, I feel like I have been so busy with everything else that my focus has not been on the kids....and that really freaks me out. SO, yesterday I decided to put the paint brush down, close the door to the laundry room (well, if it had a door I would close it) and sign off on the computer. The kids and I spent most of the day outside. We had a lovely, and oh so messy, picnic. We set up a play camp and even brought out a tent, which Jess loved. We made our backyard a jungle and went on a safari adventure. And when the rain came we raced into the house, cuddled and read books. Magically, when Dad came home the rain went away and we moved our party back outside. Appetizers, cocktails for the adults, and races for the kids. We finished our night with a family movie and bed time books in mom and dad's bed.
I needed to unplug. I needed to take a break and step away from the mess. My kids come first and if there is ever a moment where I feel like something else is becoming a priority then maybe I need to walk away from a few things.
This is what has been driving me crazy.
Our living room has looked like this for over a week.
With a little of this it's slowly getting better
And now it looks more like this.
But a lovely picnic and day with the kids
has me feeling energized to finish the job.
